Our story
The concept and dream to develop Blessings in the Horizon occurred when Gina Owens was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer on December 15, 2011. During her journey, she struggled with the side effects from the treatments, while attempting to balance a family and a full-time job. Balancing and managing medical expenses was a challenge, but not as great as many other patients. Gina was blessed to meet many other cancer patients; however, she was overwhelmed with the great need to help those that were less fortunate than she. Many had to travel a long distance to receive appropriate and excellent care. Many could not continue working due to their illness and treatments. Many parents had to quit their jobs in order to care for their child suffering with cancer. Many could not pay their utilities or even their mortgage payments. The list goes on and on. Where there is such a powerful need, there should be an organization that can fulfill that need! One afternoon as Gina was traveling home from chemotherapy, she was looking up into the sky and thanking God for the many blessings she had been given. At that moment, the horizon was more beautiful than she had ever seen before. There was even an enormous shade of pink which, Gina believes, was God’s support to her in that very moment. It was obvious there were “blessings in the horizon”.
